Solo exhibition at Galerij De Lawei, Drachten
In this exhibition, the fragility of existence is made tangible in a space-filling installation of earth, where silence and transience tangibly converge. At the center is a water basin into which video images of swimming dogs are projected—bodies in motion, simultaneously playful and defenseless.
A dialogue between image and emptiness unfolds on the walls: on one side, a series of screen prints of the dogs, their soft bellies exposed, on the other, tranquil, “empty” landscapes. In a small alcove, a video object displays a mirror with antlers and a built-in monitor on which a short documentary shows the hunting and gutting of a deer.
“Alles van (w)aarde is weerloos” reflects on the thin line between life and death, tenderness and violence—and asks how we relate to that which lives, dies, and becomes earth again.
