For the Future Thinking exhibition of the K&C Drenthe talent development program, where Heebink mentored emerging artists as a master, she created a mixed-media photograph (80 x 80 cm).
Plato’s Cave is an edited photograph in which charcoal and graphite have been used to add accents, shifting the original image to a more drawing-like rendering. These interventions soften the photographic sharpness and bring the scene closer to the atmosphere of a sketch or study.
The work refers to Plato’s allegory, in which humans see only shadows of a reality beyond our sight. For this exhibition, the allegory is linked to a different way of thinking about the future: in the Greek view, the future lies behind us, while the past is visible before us. This reversed perspective forms the core of the work and offers a reflection on how seeing, remembering, and anticipating relate to each other.
